With China’s First Low-Carbon Day Coming on 17th June, Many Activities Will Be Carried Out Nationwide

On June 16, the National Development and Reform Commission announced that June 17 will be the first National Low-Carbon Day, when the central and local governments will carry out a series of events to popularize low-carbon lifestyle as well as low-carbon production philosophy and policies.


According to the Commission, the theme for the National Energy Efficiency Publicity Week (June 15 to 21) and Low-Carbon Day is Practicing Energy Efficiency and Low-Carbon Philosophy for a Beautiful Homestead.


During the Publicity Week, various local governments and government agencies will mobilize the whole country to participate in eco-civilization development and energy-efficient and low-carbon actions through such events as exhibitions, demonstrations, technical exchanges, and onsite experience through SMS, print publicity materials, and so on, in order to communicate and promote the idea of eco-civilization for a beautiful China.


From June 14, the Commission and China News Service have jointly held a three-week “Low-Carbon Development and Green Lifestyle” Public Image Exhibition at Jingbu Street, Wangfujing, Beijing.


From June 17 on, the Commission will hold a two-week “Beautiful Chinese Dream and Tour of Low-Carbon China – 2013 National Low-Carbon Day Climate Change Solution Themed Exhibition” at Capital Museum, Beijing.


On June 17, the Commission will carry out the “Low-Carbon Life in the Community” and hold the launch ceremony for “Low-Carbon Tour of China” in Beijing.


During the Publicity Week, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will hold an Exchange Session on Advanced Energy-Efficient Technologies and Products of Industrial Enterprises. The National Government Offices Administration and the Ministry of Education under the State Council will hold publicity events with an energy-efficient campus theme. The Ministry of Transport will hold events for promoting pilots for green low-carbon transportation system development and demonstrating achievements in energy efficiency.


According to Xie Zhenhua, vice chairman of the Commission, the State Council has decided in last September that, as of 2013, the third day of the National Energy Efficiency Publicity Week in June will be set as the National Low-Carbon Day in order to improve the social awareness of energy-efficient and low-carbon development.


He said that the rich publicity activities and events during the Low-Carbon Day will promote the low-carbon development philosophy and policies to the public and popularize knowledge of climate change on the one hand and that they will lead the public to live a energy-efficient and low-carbon life so that energy efficiency and low-carbon lifestyle will be part of daily life, helping to create a positive atmosphere for society to achieve energy-efficient and low-carbon development together.
